Dear Abyss

Poem to my unborn

I desire not to procreate, nor propagate my genes
I deny the poison to descend through another generation
My art will be my only act of creation

The word machine of a novel, the potency of poetry
After my death, this will be the only way of knowing me

O what would you do without hope?!
In darkness all your life you would grope
Stumbling here and there
Fighting resentment screaming inside it’s not fair, not fair…

I would conceal you miles beneath the sea
Where the sun does not penetrate nor reach
There this poison it would not breach
This disease strikes at the very will you need to endure
Be not seduced by the light of the world and allure
Conceived in sin, will I never know my soul to be pure?
Antidepressants do not correct my anatomy
I see through your platitudes and flattery
I wander through my thoughts like a broken promise

I was nine years old when I first felt the abyss
my dear abyss without your gravity I wonder would I feel amiss?
Swelling beneath my feet
Swallowing tectonic plates And planetary cores
This was the beginning of my endless civil wars

I am divided but not conquered
Cramped but not without movement
I do not have axioms but am fluid like water

You cannot gather me in your hand
I am a thousand grains of shifting sand
Which psychometric truly weighs my sorrow?
Everywhere I go it follows…

It would be with you all your days
Eviscerating joy leaving your bones a daze
Surreal dreams that swirl and swirl your cognitive haze

You don’t want this suffering
So into this life, another soul I will not bring…
