Research Article on Rerouting Internet Protocols to Circumvent Security

This is a layman article on a very technical computer science finding. According to the article, a recent study found that attackers could reroute HTTP internet traffic directed to browsers and route it to mail servers. That would make the security encryption of the data irrelevant as the security was designed as a browser certificate, not a mail certificate.

Admittedly, I am just learning this level of security. I understand the terms and concepts, but I can’t get very deep on this. Fortunately, “ALPACA doesn’t pose a major threat to most people. But the risk posed could increase as new attacks and vulnerabilities are discovered or TLS is used to protect additional communications channels.”

So we are safe for now.

Another added bonus of this article is the research paper authors answering questions in the comments. That is very cool.
