Opening Ears and Persuading Others

In a hyper-partisan America, it’s more important than ever to listen before criticizing another’s views. Let’s keep the shouting matches to CNN and espouse a higher level of discourse.

Content Created for You

By the people who love you most!

1. Build trust with your audience

2. Spend less time on content creation

a. By leveraging content created by your audience you can cut your creation times. Ask your audience to share images from experiences with your brand using a specific hashtag then keep a running folder of these images to fill in the gaps on your content calendar. An example of this that we have implemented with my organization is stockpiling images from weddings to post on our wedding specific pages.

3. Keep your content fresh

a. While developing a brand voice and tone are important, you don’t want to be stale or repetitive. By crowdsourcing, you can get a different point of view. Reach out to experts in various topics that relate to your industry and have them write guest blogs. In this case, you’re building up your blog catalog and have plenty of options for meaningful and useful information to share with your social media following.

The first example of crowdsourcing done right is by a brewery local to the Florida Panhandle, Perfect Plain Brewing Company. I am a fan, follower, and consumer for this brand whether it’s beer, cocktails, or merchandise, and I love everything about them. Last summer they launched the “Perfect Plain Summer” campaign. It was a photo contest that required participants to use the hashtag #PerfectPlainSummer and showcase how the brewery was included in their plans. The winners of this particular giveaway received a party for 30 of their closest friends in the taproom. The images were awesome and Perfect Plain was able to fill their feed with relevant and fun images all summer long. These images did a great job of selling Perfect Plain as a lifestyle.

A second example is from a brand that I love and have talked about before in my blog content, Aerie. User-generated content is the brand’s bread and butter and helps them sell the idea of empowerment, plus some super cute clothes. They get the content from real-life consumers using the hashtag #AerieReal. Aerie encourages its advocates to produce this content with different contests, ambassador programs, and the possibility of seeing your face on their platforms and spread to millions of followers. Aerie uses crowdsourced content well because the authentic, unretouched images that the average user is posting falls in line with their brand standard and helps them remain consistent.

Crowdsourcing is a simple way to engage with your audience in a new and exciting way. Give it a try!
